A medida que los casos de COVID-19 contin\u00faan aumentando, est\u00e1 claro que estamos en medio de una pandemia moderna. Pero a medida que enfocamos los esfuerzos de nuestra comunidad en detener la pandemia, es importante reconocer la epidemia que ha asolado durante mucho tiempo a los ni\u00f1os de nuestro pa\u00eds.<\/span><\/p>

Es un hecho triste pero estad\u00edsticamente cierto que en el condado de Oklahoma, 1 de cada 3 ni\u00f1as y 1 de cada 5 ni\u00f1os ser\u00e1n abusados antes de cumplir 18 a\u00f1os. Al igual que la pandemia, los efectos de la epidemia que es el abuso infantil se sentir\u00e1n en las generaciones venideras.<\/span><\/p>

Y esa no es la \u00fanica forma en que estas dos cosas, epidemia y pandemia, est\u00e1n conectadas.<\/span><\/p>

Con las escuelas cerradas, los ni\u00f1os descubren que sus mundos de repente son mucho m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os de lo que eran hace solo unas semanas, y sus protectores habituales pueden estar fuera de su alcance.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Seg\u00fan un informe del Departamento de Servicios Humanos de Oklahoma, en el a\u00f1o fiscal 2017, m\u00e1s de 1300 informes que dieron como resultado un caso comprobado de abuso infantil provinieron de una escuela. El informe enumera a las escuelas como la cuarta fuente m\u00e1s com\u00fan de informes de abuso infantil, detr\u00e1s de las fuerzas del orden p\u00fablico, los trabajadores de bienestar infantil y los familiares. Juntas, esas cuatro fuentes constituyen 58.98% de todos los casos informados, y el 30% restante de los informes se dividi\u00f3 entre otras 17 fuentes.<\/span><\/p>

En pocas palabras, un maestro o consejero escolar que podr\u00eda haber reconocido y denunciado signos de abuso en los ni\u00f1os bajo su cuidado ya no tiene la capacidad de hacerlo. El abuso que podr\u00eda haberse detenido tiene la oportunidad de pasar desapercibido, denunciado y procesado.<\/span><\/p>

La directora del DHS, Deborah Shropshire, resalt\u00f3 recientemente este punto cuando dijo: \u201cEl aislamiento y el estr\u00e9s de los ni\u00f1os que est\u00e1n en casa todo el tiempo podr\u00edan aumentar el riesgo de maltrato infantil, y el hecho de que los ni\u00f1os no vayan a la escuela naturalmente reduce la cantidad de ojos que los vigilan. Aunque hemos visto una ca\u00edda en el volumen total de llamadas a nuestra l\u00ednea directa estatal, las llamadas que hemos recibido en su mayor\u00eda cumplen con un criterio de mayor prioridad, lo que indica la necesidad de investigar r\u00e1pidamente la seguridad del ni\u00f1o. Estamos pidiendo a la comunidad que se comunique con quienes los rodean para ofrecer ayuda. Si todos nos cuidamos unos a otros, podemos proteger a nuestros vecinos\u201d.<\/span><\/p>

ROAR es un programa que creamos para ense\u00f1ar a los ni\u00f1os muy peque\u00f1os que sus cuerpos son suyos, que nunca deben guardar secretos que los hagan sentir tristes o asustados y que deben identificar a tres adultos de confianza a los que puedan acudir en busca de ayuda. Este programa generalmente se imparte en una escuela o guarder\u00eda, pero en este momento, cualquiera puede acceder a \u00e9l en nuestros canales de redes sociales. \u00a1Solo el a\u00f1o pasado, estuvimos orgullosos de ayudar a m\u00e1s de 12,800 ni\u00f1os a encontrar su ROAR!<\/span><\/p>

Adem\u00e1s de nuestros esfuerzos de prevenci\u00f3n, nos unimos al DHS y a todos nuestros socios para pedirles a los miembros de nuestra comunidad que est\u00e9n en alerta m\u00e1xima ante se\u00f1ales de abuso. Los signos de abuso infantil incluyen: cambios en el comportamiento, incluidas la agresi\u00f3n y la hostilidad; retiro de amigos o actividad; autolesiones; huyendo; y signos f\u00edsicos como hematomas. Cualquier persona que sospeche abuso debe llamar al 1-800-522-3511 de inmediato. Es importante tener en cuenta que en Oklahoma, todos los adultos son informantes obligatorios de sospechas de abuso.
