Upon your arrival to the CARE Center, you’ll meet with several of our staff in addition to your detective and DHS case worker. Then you’ll be greeted by a Child Specialist that will walk you through what will happen during your visit.
We intentionally build in time prior to each child’s visit to help him or her feel comfortable in our environment. Each child receives one-on-one playtime.
When your child plays, you will be asked to complete some basic paperwork. Then, once your child is comfortable, it will be time for the interview. Interviews are done upstairs at the CARE Center. Parents and guardians are not allowed in the interview.
This is the cornerstone of our work. A video-recorded forensic interview is conducted in a developmentally appropriate, non-leader or intrusive setting with the emphasis on the child’s comfort and obtaining accurate information for the investigation process.
When your child is in the their interview, you will meet with our Child and Family Advocate. This is the time you can ask any questions you’d like. The Advocate is here for you in every way.
We offer one-on-one support for every parent and caregiver, including personalized resource referrals that can help alleviate barriers to your child’s and your family’s healing.
We will end your visit with customized counseling options and a trip to the Lion’s Den Resource Room.
Counseling is the key to long-term healing and overcoming the trauma of abuse. We provide on-site acute counseling to our children and parents/caregivers, as well as referrals to our on-campus partner, NorthCare or other trauma focused counselors in the community.
After advocacy and the interview, it may be necessary for your child to have a medical exam. Proper medical attention is vital to your child’s holistic healing. Through our on staff Physician’s Assistant, every child we serve has the opportunity for a medical exam on our campus.
The CARE Center is located in a calm neighborhood setting, headquartered in a large, historic home. We will give you a reminder call one to two days before your appointment.
